Years
1492–1833
Role
Episcopal seat with an Inquisition tribunal

The head of the diocese, it saw the expulsion of the Jews in 1492 and housed a tribunal of the Inquisition; having lost its frontier role, it ceased to be the first city of the region in favour of Logroño. In 1672 it had 1600 households, was walled with four gates and had, besides the cathedral, four parishes and three convents. The 18th century was prosperous, and in 1822 it joined the province of Logroño.

To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one. We never store your IP. We also use Plausible, analytics hosted in the European Union that likewise sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, to learn which sites send readers here and how many searches are run, never what is searched for.
