A Gothic cathedral begun in 1484 on the site of the martyrdom of the city's patron saints, Emeterius and Celedonius: the nave to the crossing was built between 1484 and 1526, the presbytery between 1565 and 1576 and the ambulatory between 1595 and 1614. The main façade is Baroque, by the Raón brothers, raised between 1680 and 1704, and in 1772 Antonio de Beriñaga added the top body, in the Neoclassical style. A fire in 1900 damaged the high altar, and the sacristy and cloister now house the Diocesan Museum.

We count visits ourselves, with no cookies and nothing stored on your device. To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one. We never store your IP. We also use Plausible, analytics hosted in the European Union that likewise sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, to learn which sites send readers here and how many searches are run, never what is searched for.
