To the medieval fortress of the dukes of Cardona was added, after the Reapers' War, a ring of bastions on the project of 1682 by the engineer Ambrosio Borsano, and during the War of Independence against France (1808 to 1814) the most damaged bastions were rebuilt and the outer redoubt was completed. It held out against the troops of Felipe V until 18 September 1714. It has been a parador since 1976 and, since 2010, the first parador-museum of Catalonia.

We count visits ourselves, with no cookies and nothing stored on your device. To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one. We never store your IP. We also use Plausible, analytics hosted in the European Union that likewise sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, to learn which sites send readers here and how many searches are run, never what is searched for.
