The octagonal bell tower of Castellón de la Plana, in Valencian Gothic style, stands apart from the co-cathedral; fadrí means bachelor in Valencian. Work began in 1440 and stood stalled for a long time until 1593, when several masters resumed it following the plans Damián Méndez had presented in 1591; the articles date its completion to 1593 or 1604. A Baroque spire was added in 1735.
