The line of fortifications that closes the isthmus between the Almina peninsula and the mainland. The Portuguese raised the present wall between 1541 and 1549, with the bastions of la Bandera and la Coraza Alta, and the Spanish rebuilt it in 1674 and 1705 and remade its outworks after the siege of 1720. The wall survives with its sea-filled ditch and the first line of outworks; parts can be visited, and the Revellín de San Ignacio houses one site of the city museum.

We count visits ourselves, with no cookies and nothing stored on your device. To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one. We never store your IP. We also use Plausible, analytics hosted in the European Union that likewise sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, to learn which sites send readers here and how many searches are run, never what is searched for.
