The cathedral begun around 1168 on the initiative of Fernando II of León and built between the 12th and 14th centuries, Romanesque in transition to Gothic. From the later years it keeps the Capilla Mayor, which Rodrigo Gil de Hontañón rebuilt in 1550 in the time of Bishop Tavera, and Sagarvinaga's tower, built between 1764 and 1770 after the second tower collapsed in the Lisbon earthquake. It has a diocesan and cathedral museum, opened in 1992.

To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one. We never store your IP. We also use Plausible, analytics hosted in the European Union that likewise sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, to learn which sites send readers here and how many searches are run, never what is searched for.
