Corcubión

Today: Spain

Years
1492–1833
Role
Port town on the Corcubión estuary

Corcubión belonged to the county of Traba and later passed to the Count of Altamira; in the Middle Ages it was the obligatory stop for pilgrims who, after visiting Santiago, went on to Finisterre. In the 18th century its inhabitants fitted out several ships against the English, and in August 1747 the ship of the line Glorioso reached its harbour with four million pesos of silver. In April 1809 the French attacked the area and the town ended in flames.
