The bastioned coastal battery that defended the Corcubión estuary, begun shortly before 1740, halted that year and resumed in 1751 under the engineer Francisco Llovet and then Carlos Lemaur until its completion in 1757. In 1809, during the French invasion, the buildings inside burned and the fortress was abandoned. It has been in private hands since 1951, and in 1994 it was declared a historic-military monument.
