Habsburg and Bourbon Spain

El Pardo

Today: Spain

Years
1492–1833
Role
Royal site and hunting ground

Enrique III had the first hunting lodge built in the middle of the El Pardo woodland in 1405, and Carlos I replaced it with a palace in 1547. Fernando VI walled the woodland in 1746 as a park of the royal household, and Carlos III renewed the palace almost entirely from 1772. The village, stretched along the Manzanares, was a municipality of its own until 1950, when Madrid annexed it.

We count visits ourselves, with no cookies and nothing stored on your device. To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one. We never store your IP. We also use Plausible, analytics hosted in the European Union that likewise sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, to learn which sites send readers here and how many searches are run, never what is searched for.
