It was begun in 1510 with Pedro de Morales's Gothic body, now the choir and trascoro, on the site of the great mosque, which in 1492 had become a cathedral by a bull of Innocent VIII. Diego de Siloé was commissioned in 1549 for the plans, which gave the apse and part of the crossing, and the works ended in the Baroque, with the Encarnación façade built between 1754 and 1799. The façade figures and the choir reliefs are reconstructions made after the Civil War; the tower is climbed by 160 steps.

We count visits ourselves, with no cookies and nothing stored on your device. To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one. We never store your IP. We also use Plausible, analytics hosted in the European Union that likewise sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, to learn which sites send readers here and how many searches are run, never what is searched for.
