The church of Santa María, at the top of Dalt Vila, keeps its Gothic apse and tower of the 14th century; the nave was begun at the end of the 15th century and closed with the Honda chapel in 1538. Between 1715 and 1728 the building underwent a major refurbishment, directed by Jaume Espinosa and Pere Ferro, and the nave is now Baroque. In 1782 Pope Pius VI created the see of Ibiza, which made the church a cathedral, and its Sacristy Museum can be visited.

We count visits ourselves, with no cookies and nothing stored on your device. To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one. We never store your IP. We also use Plausible, analytics hosted in the European Union that likewise sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, to learn which sites send readers here and how many searches are run, never what is searched for.
