The convent that Fray Domingo de Valtanás founded for the Dominicans in 1530; work at the present site began around 1539. Andrés de Vandelvira took over the project in 1542 and worked on it for twenty-six years, and Francisco del Castillo el Mozo finished it with the cloister fountain, dated 1577. The church is now a parish church; the cloister and the rest of the convent are ruined or transformed.
