Habsburg and Bourbon Spain
Jaén
Today: Spain
- Years
- 1492–1833
- Role
- Head of the Kingdom of Jaén and provincial capital
Jaén, head of the Kingdom of Jaén within the Crown of Castile, hosted the court of the Catholic Monarchs several times. It then fell into a decline from which it tried to recover in the 17th century, but the crisis, worsened by the Habsburgs' policy, put the recovery off until the 20th. In the War of Independence the French took and sacked it, and in 1833 it was named a provincial capital.
