La Carlota

Today: Spain

Years
1767–1833
Role
Head of the Nuevas Poblaciones of Andalusia, founded in 1767

La Carlota was founded in 1767 on Charles III's wish to settle the empty lands of the Guadalquivir valley and Sierra Morena, with German and Flemish Catholic settlers brought by Thurriegel. It was the head of the western colonies, with an orthogonal plan on both sides of the Camino Real from Cádiz to Madrid. From the period there remain the Real Posada, the Casa de la Intendencia and the parish church of the Inmaculada Concepción, begun in 1769.

To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one.
