Habsburg and Bourbon Spain

La Vid

Today: La Vid y Barrios, Spain

Years
1492–1833
Role
Village of the Premonstratensian monastery

The Premonstratensian monastery of Santa María moved in 1152 to the estate of La Vid, which Alfonso VII had given to the community, and from then on took its name from the place. It reached its greatest development in the 16th century, and Mendizábal's confiscation of 1835 left it plundered and abandoned for about thirty years, until the Augustinians took it over in 1865.
