The Renaissance palace that Ramiro Núñez de Guzmán, a former comunero leader, commissioned from Rodrigo Gil de Hontañón; Juan Ribero de Rada carried out the works, which began in 1559. By 1566 the façade on the plaza de San Marcelo was up, and at the end of the 16th century it was left unfinished, with two wings and the courtyard. It has been the seat of the Diputación of León since 1881; the towers and the missing façades date from the works begun in 1975.
