Habsburg and Bourbon Spain
León
Today: Spain
- Years
- 1492–1833
- Role
- Capital of the province of León from 1833
León, a city of the Crown of Castile, lived these centuries as a town in stagnation: in the war of the Comunidades its two leading families took opposite sides, the Guzmanes with the comuneros and the Quiñones with the king. In 1749 a building went up for a spinning mill that had stopped working by 1769, and in 1786 a hospice was set up in it, finished in 1793. In 1833 the city became the capital of its province.
