Limpias

Today: Spain

Years
1492–1833
Role
Town of the Ribero port, in the jurisdiction of Laredo

Limpias, under the vassalage of Laredo since 1201, gained importance from the 15th century as a key point on the road from the port of Laredo to Burgos. In the 16th century its Ribero port exported large quantities of iron and timber to England and Flanders, and later it shipped Castilian wheat to America. Still standing from the period are the church of San Pedro, houses with coats of arms, the casa-lonja of 1732 and the new quay of 1736.
