Role
Provincial capital of 1833

In 1521 it withstood the siege by the troops of Francis I and Henri II of Navarre, and in 1523 Carlos I granted it three fleurs-de-lis for its coat of arms. A tribunal of the Inquisition was created in the city in 1570, and in 1822, during the Liberal Triennium, it became a provincial capital, a status it lost in 1823. In 1833 it became one again, this time for good.

To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one. We also use Plausible, analytics hosted in the European Union that likewise sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, to learn which sites send readers here and how many searches are run, never what is searched for.
