The customs house Carlos III commissioned from Francesco Sabatini in 1761, all but finished by 1769 and modelled on the Italian palaces of the 16th century. It was one of the great civil works of the 18th century on the calle de Alcalá. It still houses the Ministry of Finance and is seen from the street.

We count visits ourselves, with no cookies and nothing stored on your device. To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one. We never store your IP. We also use Plausible, analytics hosted in the European Union that likewise sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, to learn which sites send readers here and how many searches are run, never what is searched for.
