The most ceremonial hall of the Buen Retiro palace, built between 1630 and 1635, with the arms of the monarchy's twenty-four kingdoms on its vault, which give it its name. It survived the bombardments of the Peninsular War, much altered by 19th-century works, and was the Army Museum from 1841 to 2005. It has belonged to the Prado since 2015 and has been closed for works since 2019, due to open in 2027.

We count visits ourselves, with no cookies and nothing stored on your device. To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one. We never store your IP. We also use Plausible, analytics hosted in the European Union that likewise sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, to learn which sites send readers here and how many searches are run, never what is searched for.
