Role
Place in the lordship of the marquises of Los Vélez

The tenth marquis of Los Vélez, Antonio Álvarez de Toledo, financed the church of the Mercedes at Oria between 1767 and 1779, as part of the lordly obligations of the time, and promoted other churches in the same comarca. During the War of Independence Napoleonic troops burned that church. The municipality also keeps the Mudéjar hermitage of San Gregorio, from the late 17th century.
