The Gothic cathedral of San Salvador was begun in 1388 on the site of Alfonso II's cathedral complex, and by about 1500 its transept and three aisles were finished. From the centuries after 1492 come the porch and the façade tower, built from 1508 to 1587, and the Baroque chapels, among them the Vigil de Quiñones chapel, finished in 1640, and the Rey Casto chapel, which Bishop Tomás Reluz had built from 1705 and which was consecrated in 1712. Inside the church stands the Cámara Santa, from the 9th century.
