The building that the Colegio de la Mercadería raised beside the Lonja as a meeting house for its merchants: the chapel dates from the 1530s and was finished in 1600, while the block with the Renaissance gallery facing the sea was begun after 1614 and looked finished before 1644. When the Consulado de Mar y Tierra was created in 1800 it moved in, and the building has carried its name since. Since 1983 it has been the seat of the presidency of the Balearic Islands.
