Habsburg and Bourbon Spain

Pastrana

Today: Spain

Years
1492–1833
Role
Ducal town of the Mendoza and the Princess of Éboli

It belonged to the Order of Calatrava until 1541, when Carlos V sold it to Ana de la Cerda, grandmother of the Princess of Éboli, and with the dukedom a time of splendour began. The dukes founded the collegiate church and, helping Saint Teresa of Jesus, two Discalced Carmelite convents in 1569. In the 18th century the dukes moved their residence to Madrid and the town began to decline.
