Peñas de San Pedro

Today: Spain

Years
1492–1833
Role
Town of the Alcaraz alfoz from 1537

After several attempts to gain autonomy from Alcaraz, Peñas de San Pedro obtained the title of villa in 1537, under Charles I. Once the danger of Muslim raids had passed, the village began to come down from the castle, and in the 18th century almost all of the population already lived at its foot. There the town hall, the church of Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza and the pilar were built.
