Habsburg and Bourbon Spain

Plasencia

Today: Spain

Years
1492–1833
Role
Episcopal city and head of the sexmo of Plasencia

Until the 19th century it was the head of the sexmo of Plasencia, a community of villa and land that came to cover a quarter of the present province of Cáceres. In 1488 its nobles rose against the Zúñiga with the backing of the Catholic Monarchs and the city returned to the crown; Ferdinand the Catholic moved there to live in 1515. In 1653 it bought, with other towns, a vote in the Cortes of Castile, and the old province of Extremadura was born.

To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one. We also use Plausible, analytics hosted in the European Union that likewise sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, to learn which sites send readers here and how many searches are run, never what is searched for.
