A single-arch bridge over the Tajo gorge, 10 metres across and 31 metres above the river, which linked the city with the emerging quarter of the Mercadillo; until the Puente Nuevo was built it was called La Puente Nueva. Its origin is disputed (a rebuilt Roman bridge, or Berber), and in 1616 a flood destroyed it and it was rebuilt. Today it is pedestrian only, and a restoration changed the 17th-century parapets and opened four balconies over the river.

To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one.
