A Plateresque palace with Italian elements, built in 1538 with Rodrigo Gil de Hontañón as architect, for Rodrigo de Messía Carrillo; it later passed to his son Juan Alonso de Fonseca, hence the Fonseca arms on the façade. It takes its name from having housed the salt monopoly, until 1870. Since 1884 it has been the seat of the Diputación Provincial, which bought it in 1881.
