Role
Town of the monasteries of Suso and Yuso

Between the 16th and 17th centuries the monastery of Yuso was built, of great size, and since the 1960s it has been called the Escorial of La Rioja. After its construction the village spread towards it and formed the barrio of Barrionuevo, which now takes up almost the whole town. The church of San Jorge was the village parish until 1542.
