A Benedictine monastery founded in 1053: the Romanesque building was demolished entirely and the present one is of the 16th to the 18th century, known as the Escorial of La Rioja. The church was begun in 1504 and finished thirty-six years later, Juan Pérez de Solarte began the processional cloister in 1549, and the library dates from 1780. An Augustinian Recollect community lives there, and one of its wings is a hotel.

To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one. We never store your IP. We also use Plausible, analytics hosted in the European Union that likewise sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, to learn which sites send readers here and how many searches are run, never what is searched for.
