The new monastery of Leyre, which the Cistercians began to build in 1562 south of the church because the old one was in very poor condition. It is a four-storey building measuring 53 by 43 metres, in the Aragonese style, with a large carved eave by Tomás de Gastelu, and the works ended in 1640. Beside it stand the Romanesque church, with its crypt and royal pantheon, and since 1954 a Benedictine community has lived here and offers guided visits.

We count visits ourselves, with no cookies and nothing stored on your device. To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one. We never store your IP. We also use Plausible, analytics hosted in the European Union that likewise sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, to learn which sites send readers here and how many searches are run, never what is searched for.
