Santa Amalia

Years
1827–1833
Role
Settlement founded in 1827

It was founded in 1827 with a hundred settlers from Don Benito, under the provisions of the Enlightenment governments for populating certain territories: the royal order is dated 31 March 1827 and the official establishment 29 September of that year. The plan fixed the square, the town hall with two schools, the jail and the church, and the Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando supervised it. The church took its dedication from the patronage of Amalia of Saxony, third wife of Fernando VII.
