The royal hospital that the Catholic Monarchs had built for pilgrims at the end of the Camino, after their visit of 1486. Enrique Egas designed and directed it between 1501 and 1511; the Plateresque portal was contracted in 1519, a balcony was added in 1678 and in the 18th century two more courtyards completed the Greek cross. It served as a hostelry until the mid 20th century and is now a Parador, inside which the chapel can be visited.

We count visits ourselves, with no cookies and nothing stored on your device. To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one. We never store your IP. We also use Plausible, analytics hosted in the European Union that likewise sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, to learn which sites send readers here and how many searches are run, never what is searched for.
