The palace that Archbishop Bartolomé Rajoy had built from 1766 on the west side of the Obradoiro square, where the jails and a stretch of the town wall had stood. The engineer Carlos Lemaur designed it in Neoclassical style, with a façade almost 90 metres long, and by the inscription on the frieze the works ran from 1766 to 1772. It housed the Seminary of Confessors, the town hall and the jail; today it is the seat of the city council.
