The mint that Felipe II ordered built in 1583 on the bank of the Eresma, to strike coins with machines driven by water wheels, the first mechanised mint in Spain. Juan de Herrera designed it and it went up between 1583 and 1588 around two courtyards that take up the slope, with slate roofs; the first coin was struck in 1586. Coining ended in 1869, it was a flour mill from 1879 to 1968, and the museum has been open to the public since June 2012.

We count visits ourselves, with no cookies and nothing stored on your device. To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one. We never store your IP. We also use Plausible, analytics hosted in the European Union that likewise sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, to learn which sites send readers here and how many searches are run, never what is searched for.
