Segovia

Today: Spain

Years
1492–1833
Role
Cloth town and provincial capital

Segovia joined the revolt of the Comunidades, under Juan Bravo, and its economic boom still continued through the 16th century. The plague of 1599 killed some 12,000 people and the city declined: it had 19,500 inhabitants in 1586 and 11,500 in 1750. The Real Compañía Segoviana de Manufacturas de Lana was created in 1763, and the Real Colegio de Artillería opened in 1764.

To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one. We never store your IP. We also use Plausible, analytics hosted in the European Union that likewise sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, to learn which sites send readers here and how many searches are run, never what is searched for.
