A convent of the Order of La Merced that Juan de Oviedo rebuilt from 1603, after the old building was pulled down: the church was finished in 1612, the cloisters are arranged around the imperial staircase, Leonardo de Figueroa remodelled the upper floor of the main cloister in 1724 and the doorway dates from 1729. Expropriated in 1835 under the confiscation, it has housed the picture museum since 1838, officially inaugurated in 1841 and today the Museo de Bellas Artes.

To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one. We never store your IP. We also use Plausible, analytics hosted in the European Union that likewise sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, to learn which sites send readers here and how many searches are run, never what is searched for.
