The part of the Alcázar that the first Habsburgs made over the palace of Pedro I and in the gardens: the upper floor of the Patio de las Doncellas, remade between 1540 and 1572 with round arches on Genoese marble columns, and the Charles V ceiling room, with a coffered ceiling of 1541 to 1543. In the gardens, the Charles V pavilion dates from 1543 to 1546, the statue in the Mercury pool from 1576, Vermondo Resta's Grotesque Gallery from 1612 and the Lion arbour from 1644 to 1645. It is still the residence of the royal family when it visits the city, and it had more than two million visitors in 2019.
