Soria

Years
1492–1833
Role
Provincial capital from 1833

A Castilian city with a vote in the Cortes, it went through a long decline after 1492: the expulsion of the Jews that year brought economic decline, and by 1602 only thirteen of its thirty-six original parishes remained. Its population went from 6,500 in 1612 to 3,300 in 1710 and 4,055 in 1777. Javier de Burgos's reform of 1833 created the province of Soria, of which it is the capital.

To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one. We also use Plausible, analytics hosted in the European Union that likewise sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, to learn which sites send readers here and how many searches are run, never what is searched for.
