The Traída de las Aguas of Teruel, with its aqueduct-viaduct of Los Arcos, was built to improve the supply of a city that depended on cisterns and wells. Works began in 1537 and were dropped for their cost; in 1551 the council commissioned them again from Quinto Pierres Vedel, who designed Los Arcos, in two levels (six arches above and two below), finished in 1554. Water reached the fountain of the Plaza Mayor in 1558; some arches fell in the battle of Teruel and were restored when the war ended.
