The medieval bridge over the Tagus, built in the 13th century and restored around 1390 by Archbishop Pedro Tenorio, who had the great central arch and the two crenellated towers made. Under Charles II it was reformed to widen its approaches, and a century later it was paved; an inscription with the imperial shield survives on the inner wall of the entrance tower from both works.
