The monumental gate in the city walls, rebuilt in the middle of the 16th century in works that probably began around 1540, with Alonso de Covarrubias taking part around 1547 and 1548, and that would finish in 1576. It has two bodies joined by high crenellated walls that form a courtyard with a statue of Charles V, and on the outer side a large shield of the Imperial City with a double-headed eagle. An excavation in 1999 found beneath it an older bent entrance that predates the conquest of 1085.
