The palace that Francisco de los Cobos, secretary to Carlos V, had built to a project of 1524 by Luis de Vega, finished around 1528 around a Renaissance courtyard. It was the kings' residence while the court sat in Valladolid, from 1601 to 1606, and Felipe IV was born there in 1605. It was altered by the 17th-century façade, Ventura Rodríguez's staircase of the late 18th century and the works of the early 20th; today it is the seat of an Army command.
