The Cistercian monastery sponsored by Ramón Berenguer IV, who handed it to monks of Fontfroide in 1149, a royal pantheon of the Crown of Aragon, which the Catholic Monarchs visited in 1493. From later centuries date the Renaissance alabaster altarpiece that Damián Forment made between 1527 and 1529 and the Baroque gate to the church atrium, which the Duke of Cardona had built in 1670. Not all spaces can be visited, because the Cistercians occupy the monastery again.

We count visits ourselves, with no cookies and nothing stored on your device. To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one. We never store your IP. We also use Plausible, analytics hosted in the European Union that likewise sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, to learn which sites send readers here and how many searches are run, never what is searched for.
