The Neoclassical plaza mayor, a square 61 metres on each side with arcades and the town hall on the north side. It was proposed in 1780 to join the old town with the new extension; work began on 17 October 1781 to the design of Justo Antonio de Olaguíbel, and it was inaugurated in 1791. The buildings known as Los Arquillos bridge a drop of nearly twenty metres, and since 1936 it has been called Plaza de España.

We count visits ourselves, with no cookies and nothing stored on your device. To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one. We never store your IP. We also use Plausible, analytics hosted in the European Union that likewise sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, to learn which sites send readers here and how many searches are run, never what is searched for.
