A villa on the Alto de la Cárcel, six and a half kilometres south of Arellano, on a terrace of the tributaries of the Ega, lived in from the 1st century to the 5th. The village's name is said to come from its own, Fundus Aurelianus, the estate of Aurelius. It looked over a plain that in Roman times held an artificial lake.
