Habsburg and Bourbon Spain
Burgos
Today: Spain
- Years
- 1492–1833
- Role
- Provincial capital of 1833
Burgos, an intermittent seat of the Castilian court from 1230 until the Catholic Monarchs, reached its fullness in the 16th century, when the city turned to trade. From the end of that century it declined, worsened by the move of the capital to Madrid and by plague, and renewal only came in the last decades of the 18th century. The province of Burgos was created in 1833.
