Campillos was founded in 1492 by authorization of the Catholic Monarchs, and depended on Teba until Charles II granted it the villazgo with full jurisdiction on 6 November 1680. In 1821 it was named head of a judicial district. From those centuries is its church of Nuestra Señora del Reposo, begun in 1506 and reformed between 1805 and 1821.
