The arcaded square that replaced the Arrabal market outside the medieval town. The Casa de la Panadería was begun in 1590 and Juan Gómez de Mora finished the square in 1619; it burned in 1631, 1672 and 1790, and after the last fire Juan de Villanueva rebuilt it with lower houses. Ten arches lead in, the Arco de Cuchilleros the best known.

We count visits ourselves, with no cookies and nothing stored on your device. To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one. We never store your IP. We also use Plausible, analytics hosted in the European Union that likewise sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, to learn which sites send readers here and how many searches are run, never what is searched for.
